Some weddings build slowly. Gem & Michael's at Camblesforth Hall absolutely did not. The atmosphere was already buzzing before our start time and, once the Magic Mirror opened, it seemed to go from zero to a queue almost instantly.

This was also a particularly nice booking for us to come back for. We'd never met Gem & Michael before. Camblesforth Hall recommended us after we'd worked just one previous event at the venue, and that recommendation brought us back through the doors for their wedding.

Back at Camblesforth Hall — and this time the booking had come directly from the venue's recommendation.

One Wedding Was Enough for a Recommendation

There's something particularly satisfying about this one. We'd only worked at Camblesforth Hall once before, but that was enough for the venue to recommend Yorkshire Magic Mirror to Gem & Michael.

We hadn't met the couple beforehand, so this wasn't a booking that had grown out of a wedding fayre conversation or a previous meeting. They'd trusted the venue's recommendation — which meant our previous night here had clearly left the right impression.

Camblesforth Hall is also only around a 15-minute drive for us, so having a venue this close actively recommending us is a relationship we're very happy to be building.

A Simple Print for a Very Un-Simple Party

Gem & Michael kept their custom print deliberately simple: blue text on a clean white border, finished with “The Ethiennes 19-09-26”. No huge theme and no complicated artwork — just something clean and personal to their wedding.

We were positioned at the back of the main room near the entrance, with the DJ opposite us. By the time everything was ready, the atmosphere was already properly lively.

Then It Went 0–100

The room went from relaxed to properly buzzing almost instantly.

Packed evening wedding reception at Camblesforth Hall

Around 120 guests and no shortage of energy.

Once we opened at 7pm, the Mirror got busy incredibly quickly. With around 120 guests in the evening and plenty of them coming back again and again, it wasn't simply a rush of people wanting one photograph and disappearing.

Gem was amongst them too, first using the Mirror with friends and later coming back with her daughter. Around them, the props were moving constantly and groups were forming faster than we'd finished the previous one.

Eventually the repeat visits created enough of a queue that we switched to single-print mode. Normally we can produce copies for the people in the photograph, but tonight the better experience was getting the next group onto the Mirror faster and keeping that queue moving.

The Mirror Became Part of the Party

These are our favourite nights to photograph because the Mirror stops feeling like a separate bit of wedding entertainment sitting at the edge of the room. It becomes part of whatever is happening around it.

People weren't cautiously trying it once. They were grabbing different hats and signs, bringing another group back, swapping people around and going again. The best man became particularly attached to the hat collection — although the hats themselves may have had a different opinion by the end of the evening.

Groups kept coming back — which eventually meant changing how we printed just to keep everyone moving.

Pizza, Props and a Proper Saturday Night

Perfect timing: the pizza van arrived later in the evening too.

Later in the evening a pizza van arrived, which made the glowing “You've Stolen A Pizza My Heart” sign inside suddenly feel even more appropriate.

By then this was a proper Saturday-night wedding. The dance floor was packed, glasses had already met an unfortunate end, the props were everywhere and the Mirror queue was still turning over. It wasn't polished and quiet — it was a wedding being thoroughly enjoyed.

And We Finally Got Our Camblesforth Hall VenView

We'd also come back hoping to capture something we'd wanted from the venue: a VenView virtual tour of Camblesforth Hall. With the venue team's help, we got it.

The team were genuinely welcoming throughout the evening. We were told to help ourselves to food and drinks if we wanted anything, and they made it easy for us to work around the venue and capture the VenView alongside the wedding booking.

That's exactly the sort of venue relationship we want. They trusted us enough to recommend us after one event; we've now returned for the resulting wedding and captured a new way for couples to explore the venue too.

Final Thoughts

Gem & Michael's wedding started with a venue recommendation and ended as one of those two-hour bookings where we barely seemed to stop. A simple custom print, around 120 guests, repeat visitors, a queue busy enough to change our printing setup, a packed room, pizza arriving outside and a new Camblesforth Hall VenView captured around it all.

More than anything, it was a reminder that doing one event properly can lead directly to the next.

Congratulations Gem & Michael, and thank you for having Yorkshire Magic Mirror as part of it — and thank you to the Camblesforth Hall team for sending them our way.
