Are photo booth props dated?
Not according to the people actually using them.
We can remember one wedding where most guests were fairly “whatever” about the props. At pretty much every other event, they get used. All of them.
There’s Even a Prop Pecking Order
Big glasses normally go first. Hats are second. Then, as the night goes on, the signs and everything else start getting involved.
Age changes the choices a bit. Younger guests often go straight for glasses. Adults will use the lot. Hats become especially popular with older guests — cowboys, police, pimp hats, whatever looks most ridiculous.
Two things we’ve learned:
1. The rainbow cowboy hat will get worn.
2. The pink cowboy hat does not care who you are.

We Don’t Retire Props Because Nobody Uses Them
We retire them because people batter them.
Some props survive for years. Others have a considerably shorter life expectancy. Straw and corn-style hats, in particular, seem determined to disintegrate.
That tells us more than a survey ever could. If props were dead, we wouldn’t keep wearing them out.
The Prop Isn’t Really the Point
A stupid hat doesn’t magically make a photograph better.
What it does is give somebody permission to stop posing properly.
A guest who says “I hate having my photograph taken” is suddenly not thinking about having their photograph taken. They’re wondering why their mate is wearing enormous pink glasses and a cowboy hat.
That changes the psychology of the photograph.
Do You Have to Use Them?
Absolutely not.
Some people want a proper family photograph. Some want a beautiful picture with their partner. Some want to put on everything they can physically carry.
It’s your photograph. You do you.
Serious Is for the Photographer. We’re the Fun.
Use no props, one prop or half the table. We’ll work with whatever version of you turns up.
