We were back at Meadow View near Rossington for a very different event from our previous visit: the residents’ prom. Around 110 people were expected for an evening with a VIP entrance, welcome drinks, music, awards, Prom King and Queen and our Magic Mirror — but with every guest covered by safeguarding, privacy and discretion mattered just as much as everything happening in the room.

Back At Meadow View
We already knew Meadow View from the Families Together event earlier in the summer, but this time we were back for the residents themselves.
It was a lovely late-summer evening outside, and inside the Village Hall a proper prom night was taking shape. We arrived at 4pm to set up before the 5pm start, with the Magic Mirror positioned beside the awards table. The DJ was in the opposite corner at the same end of the room.
Welcome drinks and a VIP-style entrance helped turn the Village Hall into a proper prom night.

A VIP Entrance, Welcome Drinks And A Proper Occasion
Near the VIP entrance, welcome drinks were ready for guests arriving. There were 14 awards planned during the evening, followed by Prom King and Prom Queen.
Those details matter. This wasn't an event made to feel like a substitute for a prom. Meadow View had put the work in to make it feel like the real thing.
We created a custom purple Hollywood Hills-inspired design specifically for the evening.

A Custom Purple Hollywood Design
For the Magic Mirror we created a custom Hollywood Hills-inspired design in purple specifically for the evening.
Customising what we do to fit the event is a huge part of Yorkshire Magic Mirror. There was no generic prom template pulled from a folder — the print design belonged to this night.
By the end of the event we had produced 89 prints.
Fourteen awards were waiting alongside Prom King and Prom Queen — sixteen special moments in all.

The Work You Don't See Behind A Night Like This
One of the things that stood out most wasn't something we could photograph.
The amount of work the carers put into an event like this is enormous. When guests are arriving, the music is playing and everyone is enjoying the evening, it would be very easy not to notice just how much work is happening behind the scenes to make all of that possible.
The welcome drinks, the entrance, the awards, the music and the prom traditions weren't simply decorations around an event. They were part of giving people an experience so many others would consider completely normal.
Meadow View Is Creating Normal Life
That was probably the strongest feeling we came away with.
Meadow View is giving so many people the chance to experience the celebrations, milestones and ordinary moments of life that can otherwise be very easy to take for granted.
A residents’ prom might sound like a simple thing. Seeing the care and work required to make it happen makes you realise it isn't simple at all.
Privacy And Discretion Came First
Every guest at this event was covered by safeguarding requirements. That meant privacy wasn't an afterthought or something to consider when we got home — it shaped how we worked throughout the evening.
We have deliberately kept identifiable residents out of this story. The photographs we use focus instead on the venue, setup, details, awards and our own equipment.
You don't need to show somebody's face to prove they had a special evening.
A Good Conversation With Roger
Roger was providing the music for the evening and is also Meadow View's resident music teacher. We had a really good chat towards the end of the night and he was extremely complimentary about what we do.
We also talked about some of the software ideas we are developing for DJs and musicians, particularly around guest requests. As somebody already working in exactly that environment, his interest made it a particularly useful conversation.
89 Prints, But That Isn't The Number That Matters
The Magic Mirror finished the evening on 89 prints. Normally that would be one of the headline numbers from an event.
This time it isn't.
The thing worth remembering is the work that went into giving around 110 people a proper night out, a proper prom and all the little details that came with it.
