Magic Mirror at The Bridge

Katie and Josef didn't actually get married at The Bridge. They'd already done that around a month earlier on a cruise in Norway. On 7 August 2026, around 120 friends and family came together in the Ribston Suite for what they called their Happily Ever After Party — bringing a little bit of Norway back to Yorkshire with them.

This one had been more than three years in the making for us too. Katie and Josef first saw Yorkshire Magic Mirror at a wedding fayre at The Owl in Hambleton near Selby in April 2023, and booked us because they thought ours looked the best.

This was a two-hour Magic Mirror booking from 7pm until 9pm. Guests had already started arriving from around 6:30pm, but Katie and Josef weren't there yet, so rather than opening early we waited for them to arrive, approve everything and be the first people to use their Mirror.

It was a more relaxed evening than a typical full wedding day because nobody had spent the afternoon drinking together, but the Magic Mirror still produced 155 instant prints in two hours.

The Setting – The Bridge

We're back at The Bridge regularly, and it's one of those venues where everything just seems to run smoothly. The staff know their building, know how weddings work and, because we've worked there so many times, they also trust us to get on with what we need to do.

Katie and Josef were celebrating in the Ribston Suite, which works really well for around 120 evening guests. It feels busy and cosy without everyone being on top of each other, and there's enough room for the bar, dancing, food and entertainment to coexist properly.

The room looked particularly good that evening, with real candles burning, lovely summer weather outside and the tables dressed in soft pink and lilac. The Bridge team also had the BBQ going outside, with Taste of Italy setting up their ice cream cart nearby.

For a celebration of this size, we'd choose the Ribston Suite over the smaller Walshford Suite. At around 120 guests, this room just works.

The Setup – Our Trusted Spot in the Ribston Suite

For this party we used what has become our trusted Magic Mirror position at The Bridge: through the main door, to the left and at the back of the Ribston Suite beyond the bar.

We've used this spot repeatedly and know it works. Guests naturally pass it as they move around the room, there's plenty of space for groups and the Magic Mirror stays part of the evening without getting in the way of the dance floor, bar or everything else happening around it.

Guests were already arriving from around 6:30pm and there were plenty of children and parents ready to get involved. Normally, if everyone is ready, we're happy to open early.

This time we deliberately waited. Katie and Josef hadn't arrived yet, and we wanted them to see everything, approve us starting and, most importantly, be the first people to use their own Magic Mirror. Once they arrived for the agreed 7pm start, they opened the show themselves.

Meeting Katie & Josef Three Years Earlier

Some bookings come around quickly. This definitely wasn't one of them.

Katie and Josef first found us at a wedding fayre at The Owl in Hambleton near Selby in April 2023. After seeing what was there, they told us they chose Yorkshire Magic Mirror because ours looked the best.

More than three years later, we were finally standing in the Ribston Suite with their completely custom Norway design loaded and ready to go.

Long bookings like this are always satisfying when they finally arrive. You meet a couple for a few minutes at a wedding fayre, put a date years into the diary and eventually get to see the whole thing become a real party.

155 Prints at Their Happily Ever After Party

The evening started quickly once Katie and Josef had taken the first photograph.

There were lots of younger children and parents amongst the first groups using the Magic Mirror before everyone was called away for the speeches.

This was noticeably more relaxed than a normal wedding reception. Because the actual wedding had happened in Norway a month earlier, there hadn't been a full day of guests drinking together before the evening party started.

That didn't stop people enjoying themselves, though, and by the time we finished at 9pm the final count was 155 instant prints.

It was a good reminder that a Magic Mirror doesn't need a room to be completely wild to work. Families, children, groups of friends and the couple themselves can keep coming back throughout the evening and create something different every time.

A Brilliantly Relaxed Crowd

One thing that stood out was how different the atmosphere felt from a wedding where everyone has already been together all day.

There were no day drinkers arriving at the evening reception after hours of celebrating. Instead, the party built more gradually, with younger children, parents and family groups getting involved first.

That didn't mean everybody was taking it easy.

While getting a group of ladies ready for their photograph, we warned them that the countdown on the Magic Mirror goes quickly — adding that it goes even quicker when you're drunk.

Josef's mum immediately replied, "I'm already pissed", and started laughing.

That's exactly the sort of completely unscripted interaction we love at events. It's never just about standing people in front of a camera and pressing a button.

Welcome to the Roast of Josef Barclay

Every wedding gives us moments we'll remember after we've packed away, and this time a lot of them came from the speeches.

Katie's dad referenced their Norwegian cruise wedding by welcoming Josef into the family with a very appropriate "welcome aboard, shipmate".

Josef then worked some Lord of the Rings humour into his own speech, including describing his new wife as his "Precious".

Then best man Alastair took over. After having suffered a heart attack before the celebration, he was thankfully there to deliver what he introduced as "the roast of Josef Barclay".

Josef being a train driver gave him plenty to work with, including "I'm not saying he's tight, but he does only breathe in" and "he wakes up every morning and checks under his bed to make sure he hasn't lost any sleep."

Josef's own route is Blackpool, but for a few minutes that evening he was definitely being taken somewhere else entirely.

Working Alongside Great Suppliers

The lovely weather meant a big part of the evening could happen outside as well as in the Ribston Suite.

The Bridge team had their BBQ running, while Taste of Italy were serving ice cream from their cart outside.

Inside, Colin from Sound Division PM was looking after the evening music, another familiar supplier we've worked alongside before.

There wasn't a photographer working the party because Katie and Josef's actual wedding had already happened in Norway a month earlier. That made the instant Magic Mirror photographs another way of capturing this second part of their wedding story with the wider group of family and friends back home.

A Completely Custom Norway-Themed Design

The Norway story didn't stop with the speeches. It also gave us one of the most distinctive print designs we've produced.

Josef had used AI to create the finished visual concept himself. It featured Norwegian mountains and water, a Viking longship, Nordic-style decoration and architecture, with two photograph spaces in the centre and The Barclay Wedding – 7th August 2026 across the bottom.

Having a great-looking image and having artwork that will work reliably as a live event print are two different things. It took some work to make Josef's finished design work commercially on the Magic Mirror while keeping the character of his original idea.

The finished result became the design for every one of the 155 prints produced that evening — completely personal to Katie and Josef and something nobody else's wedding will have.

Katie and Josef's Happily Ever After Party is exactly why we like writing about real events rather than pretending every wedding follows the same formula.

They'd already married in Norway. A month later they brought around 120 people together at The Bridge, served BBQ and ice cream, roasted a train driver, slipped Lord of the Rings into the speeches and put a completely unique piece of Norway-inspired artwork onto 155 Magic Mirror prints.

For us, it also completed a journey that had started more than three years earlier at The Owl wedding fayre in Hambleton.

And it reinforced something we already know about The Bridge: for this sort of guest number, the Ribston Suite and our trusted position beyond the bar just work.

Two hours, 155 prints and one very personal Happily Ever After Party. Not a traditional wedding reception — and all the better for being completely theirs.
