The Hospitium is one of those York venues that just feels special the second guests arrive. Historic building, beautiful surroundings, and a relaxed atmosphere that instantly puts everyone in a good mood.
This wedding had around 80 guests, a genuinely happy crowd, and exactly the kind of energy where interactive entertainment works perfectly. So we brought both the Magic Mirror and something new — the Magic Mirror Mini — and used the night as a real-world test.
Quick takeaways:
- The Hospitium layout works brilliantly for interactive entertainment.
- Guests used the mirror constantly — not just peak moments.
- Adding the Mini created extra energy without crowding the room.
The Setup – Where Placement Makes the Difference
We positioned the mirror in the main room, left of the entrance. It sounds simple, but placement is everything.
That location meant guests naturally passed it all night — arriving, grabbing drinks, moving between conversations and the dancefloor. No announcements needed. No awkward “where is it?” moments.
Top tip for Hospitium weddings: entertainment should sit in the natural crossover of the room. When guests flow past it, usage goes through the roof.
Testing the Magic Mirror Mini
This wedding became one of our first proper live tests for the Magic Mirror Mini. We ran the full mirror alongside it, and the reaction was immediate.
- The main mirror handled group energy.
- The Mini pulled guests in for spontaneous selfies.
- Together, they kept the room active all evening.
Instead of one queue forming, guests interacted continuously. Different personalities found their way into the experience — and that’s exactly what you want at a relaxed wedding.
Lighting & Photography at The Hospitium
Historic venues often mean mixed lighting and darker interiors, but this is where a DSLR-powered mirror makes a real difference.
Our camera and lighting setup had zero issues — crisp photos, balanced exposure, and prints that still looked premium even as the evening lighting changed.
No grainy booth photos. No blown highlights. Just clean, flattering images all night long.
The Photos
Historic venues can be tricky for cameras, but the DSLR-powered mirror keeps photos clean, bright and flattering all evening.

Energy All Night (Not Just After the First Dance)
Some weddings have peak mirror moments. This wasn’t one of them.
Guests used it constantly. From early evening conversations right through to dancefloor energy, the mirror never really stopped.
Huge credit to Night Owls Disco and the venue team as well — great music, great coordination, and amazing staff who genuinely help suppliers deliver the best experience.
