We have had easier starts to a wedding fayre.
Sunday 18 October 2026. Cedar Court, Huddersfield. Seven degrees outside, a van full of equipment and our penultimate wedding fayre of the year with Wedding Fayres Yorkshire.
We had even gone over the day before to see whether we could set up early.
Unfortunately, the hotel had a meal for 150 people booked in. Fair enough. We would do it in the morning.
So we set off at 7:30am, got there early and became the first supplier in.
Excellent. Plenty of time.
Except the lift had broken.
Of course it had.
Cedar Court in numbers:
- 90 people registered in advance, with turnout broadly matching expectations.
- 91 prints produced during the three-hour wedding fayre.
- 26 Magic Mirror prints and 65 other prints across our creative experiences.
- Four exceptionally promising enquiries — conversations, not confirmed bookings.
- Four products on show: Magic, Mini, Mobile and Memories.
- 11am–2pm, with the Mini and caricatures drawing the biggest crowds.
- One broken lift. Thankfully, also one very useful kitchen lift.
A chilly October start at Cedar Court, Huddersfield.

The Great Cedar Court Lift Negotiations
Getting the equipment into place is not normally the headline act.
We were first to arrive, ready to unload, and promptly discovered that the main lift was out of action. Not ideal when you have brought the Magic Mirror, Magic Mini, Magic Mobile and Memories.
Fortunately, a bit of sweet-talking with the Cedar Court team secured us access to the kitchen lift.
We cannot claim to have fixed the lift.
We did, however, successfully negotiate with a hotel.
By the time opening approached, setup had started to feel a little rushed. But everything was in place and we were ready to go.
Priority number two: tea and sausage butties.
Priority number one had already been making sure we could actually get the kit upstairs.
Our Own Little Corner of Cedar Court
We had a cracking position in the main reception, next to the Wedding Fayres Yorkshire team, with our own dedicated space and no other suppliers sharing it.
That meant we could demonstrate our different experiences together without squeezing everything into a conventional stand.
Couples arrived, checked in and had Yorkshire Magic Mirror right there to discover.
We also managed to capture a drone shot and a VenView venue tour — more ways to show what the venue and the day actually looked like.
Our own space in reception, right alongside Wedding Fayres Yorkshire. No other suppliers in our area — just us and quite a lot of equipment.

It Started Steady. Then It Got a Bit Silly.
The first visitors came through in a steady flow. Lovely atmosphere, plenty of familiar suppliers, nothing too frantic.
Then people started discovering the Mini's creative prints.
And the caricatures.
Especially the caricatures.
Before long we had a proper queue. Not a couple of people having a curious glance. People were waiting for their turn, having their pictures taken and staying to see what came out.
We are used to queues. We manage them at events all the time, so there was no drama on that front.
But the level of interest? That was something else.
End-of-day technical report
“Fucking crazy for us. I'm shattered.”
Possibly the most accurate summary of a three-hour wedding fayre we have ever written.
People queued for their turn — and stayed to see their caricatures appear.

Couples, friends and families all got involved.

And yes, the dogs made it into the artwork too. They weren't even at the wedding fayre.

Everyone Wanted to Be a Caricature
At Rogerthorpe Manor, caricatures stole the show. At Oulton Hall, they were one of the biggest talking points. At Cedar Court, people actually queued for them.
Individuals, couples, friends, groups — everybody seemed to want to see themselves turned into something funny and personal.
Some chose caricatures. Others went for the softer watercolour-style portraits. The photographs from the day show just how much variety came out of the system.
We also made pet caricatures. Because apparently getting yourself turned into a cartoon is no longer enough. Your dog needs one too.
Fair enough. We are not going to argue with the dog.
A different style, same idea: give people something personal to take home.

And No, We Didn't Build the Pet-Human Hybrid. Yet.
The day before the fayre, we came up with another idea: “Make Me My Pet.”
Take a photograph of a person, take a photograph of their pet and create a caricature that merges the two.
We had every intention of seeing whether we could test it at Cedar Court.
We didn't.
It turns out that when everyone wants a caricature, experimenting with an entirely new one has to wait its turn too.
The ordinary pet caricatures worked beautifully, though. The human-pet mash-up can be an adventure for another day.
91 Prints. Four Conversations We're Excited About.
By the end of the fayre, the Magic Mirror had produced 26 prints, with another 65 prints coming from our other experiences.
91 prints in three hours.
But we are not going to pretend the print count is the whole story.
We also came away with four exceptionally promising enquiries. They are not bookings yet, and we have always been careful about that distinction.
People need time to plan. Dates need checking. Decisions need making.
What matters is that the conversations were there — and that couples could see, try and enjoy what we offer instead of just reading about it on a leaflet.
For us, the Mini and caricatures were the standouts. The demand has also given us something to think about: whether caricatures should become a separately priced add-on to Mini.
That is a decision for another day, after we have looked properly at the costs and the guest experience. But it is a nice problem to have.
Good People Make a Good Wedding Fayre
The atmosphere around Cedar Court was lovely, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful — not least when our entire morning depended on finding another way to move the equipment.
Ebony and Amanda were there for Wedding Fayres Yorkshire, helping keep the day running.
There was also a strong collection of wedding suppliers around the venue, including Adrian Salamon, Twilight Sparkle Games, Debs Events, Allan from AtmosLiveUK, From Above Dresses, Edwed James Photography, Amamus Ceremonies, Earth Things Florist, Sunflowers Lingerie, Matt Thompson Photography, Antich, Ace of Spades, Quality Events Decor, Kiss the Bride Photography, Something Reloved, Adelaide Taylor Music, Elite Photo Booths, John Steel Photography, Prince Takes Pictures and Make My Day Styling.
It was great to see familiar faces alongside suppliers we do not get to catch up with every week.
And despite having our own little area in reception, it still felt like being part of a proper Yorkshire wedding-supplier community.
The prints were only part of it. The reactions were the real entertainment.

One More Wedding Fayre to Go
Cedar Court was our penultimate wedding fayre of 2026.
And after the run we have had recently, it would have been perfectly reasonable to expect a quieter day as the season draws to a close.
Apparently nobody told the people queueing for caricatures.
We arrived in the cold, found a broken lift, talked our way into a kitchen lift, rushed the final setup, ordered sausage butties and then spent three hours making people laugh.
We left with 91 prints completed, four conversations worth following up and a growing suspicion that our caricatures are becoming one of the strongest things we take to a wedding fayre.
And, yes, we were absolutely shattered.
One fayre left. We're not winding down. We're still making heads turn.
